On the beautiful Balearic island of Menorca, in the municipality of Alaior, the Alcaiduset estate is located in a remote, idyllic setting. Here, the Menorcan family business Binibeca, now in its 5th generation, produces various cheese and sausage specialities in the traditional way. The friendly family business covers 200 hectares, on which four different animal species are expertly bred and lovingly reared. A total of 120 cows, 250 goats, 100 sheep and more than 100 pigs live there.
In summer, just like on Mallorca, the dairy cows are kept in a barn that is open on all sides to protect them from the hot sun. This guarantees a generous supply of fresh air throughout the barn. In spring, the cows are then allowed to go out to pasture. Grazing has a positive effect on the immune system. The animals move more, which is good for the circulation, body condition and metabolism. Each cow produces 9,000 litres of milk per year. The goats, pigs and sheep also enjoy being outdoors from spring onwards. The Menorcan estate Alcaiduset has large pastures where the animals can move freely and have a good romp. Menorcan pigs love to roll and wallow in the mud. The goats can't get over themselves and jump for joy. The sheep bleat with excitement at finally being out in nature again.
Binibeca has been a member of the Denominación de Origen de Quesos Mahon since 1996 and has won countless prizes for the best semi-matured cow's cheese and the best matured cow's cheese. It is also the first Menorcan company to produce artisanal goat cheese in all its varieties. Binibeca not only produces tasty cheeses and cured meats, but also has two shops. One shop is located directly on the Alcaiduset estate and the other in San Luis (Binibeca Vell street), Es Bouer. Here you can taste the delicious products and then buy them.
